About Me
Hi! I’m Jesse. Thanks for stopping by.
Writing is my happy place. It makes me more grounded, clear, and most importantly, me.
I’m a kid at heart (always have been), and I love writing stories for children and young adults. My passions include anything with magic, the weird and wacky, transformations, or transportation into foreign lands. I’m a sucker for the underdog and I love a character who’s looking for more confidence and realizes their strength along the way.
Having said that, I think there are important serious topics, too – things like grappling with shame, hiding your true self, and mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and OCD. For these topics, I’ve written creative nonfiction essays. I believe some of the best writing can be a mix of light and dark, so I’m looking to bring some of these aspects to my fiction.
Feel free to drop me a line to say hello!
The Honest Truth about Mental Health
Ah, mental health. The white elephant in the room.
Whether it’s depression, anxiety or a related issue, chances are you or someone you know has gone through it. But if it’s so prevalent, why don’t we talk about it more?
In the spirit of “be the change”, I’d like to share my story.
Re-capturing the Magic
Do you ever feel like there’s more out there, waiting for you?
A few weeks ago, I came across a painting of a kid who’s in front of a drab, black and white building. The kid is pulling back a curtain to reveal a hidden explosion of colours – reds, yellows, greens. It’s like there’s a psychedelic Persian rug hiding behind this boring scene.
